Privacy policy

Anvil Writer is a free Android writing app made by 1001769466 Ontario Inc., operating as Anvil Digital, an Ontario corporation (“we”, “us”). This policy covers the app. We follow Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

The short version

Anvil Writer has no servers of its own. We don’t collect, receive, store or see your writing, your account details or how you use the app. Your work goes directly between your phone and your own Microsoft OneDrive.

What stays on your phone

• Your projects and their text, so you can write offline.
• Your word counts and daily goal.
• Your app settings, such as font size.
• The sign-in tokens Microsoft gives the app, so you stay signed in. They’re kept in your phone’s secure storage.

Uninstalling the app removes all of this from your phone. Your OneDrive copies stay in your OneDrive.

What goes to your OneDrive

When you sign in with your Microsoft account, the app asks Microsoft for three permissions: access to its own app folder in your OneDrive (Apps/Anvil Writer), to stay signed in, and to read your basic profile (your name and email address, shown in Settings). It can’t see or change anything else in your OneDrive.

The app saves one file per project and a word log (wordlog.csv) in that folder. Microsoft stores them under its own terms and privacy statement, as part of your OneDrive. We have no access to them.

What we don’t do

• No analytics, tracking, crash reporting or advertising in the app.
• No account with Anvil Digital; we never learn who uses the app.
• We don’t sell or share any information, because we don’t have any.

Downloads

The app is downloaded from GitHub, which keeps its own standard logs when you download a file. That’s covered by GitHub’s privacy statement, not this policy.

Removing access

Sign out in the app’s Settings, or remove Anvil Writer from your Microsoft account’s app permissions at account.microsoft.com. To delete your writing, delete the Apps/Anvil Writer folder in OneDrive.

Children

Anvil Writer isn’t directed at children under 13.

Changes

If the app ever starts handling information differently, we’ll update this policy and the date above first.
